Co Mayo residents to protest outside Shell HQ in Dublin
20/06/2005 - 07:42:06Residents from the Rossport area of Co Mayo are due to mount a demonstration outside the headquarters of the Shell oil company in Dublin this afternoon.
The protest was arranged to highlight the residents' concerns about a 9km pipeline the company is building in their area so it can pump gas at high pressure from the Corrib field.
Protest organiser Maura Harrington said such a high pressure pipeline had never been built anywhere else in the world and locals had serious concerns about the safety of having it near their homes.
"It is a cheapskate option to facilitate the oil companies," she said.
