Eircom League to investigate Tolka Park incident
18/06/2005 - 17:28:33The eircom League has insisted it will investigate Friday’s night’s altercation between Shelbourne chief executive Ollie Byrne and Shamrock Rovers’ manager Roddy Collins.
Byrne was annoyed over a radio interview given by Collins during which he claimed Shelbourne would win nothing this season and started an argument with the Rovers manager during which blows were reportedly exchanged.
Collins insisted he was acting in self-defence though Byrne has, so far, refused to comment on the incident.
In a brief statement, the eircom League said: “Following a reported incident prior to last night’s (Fri June 17th) Shelbourne v Shamrock Rovers Premier Division fixture at Tolka Park, it will fully investigate all aspects of this matter.
”No further statement will be made at this time.”
