Pay talks begin at HSBC

18/06/2005 - 08:37:48
Talks aimed at averting further strikes by thousands of HSBC bank workers over pay have started.

The Amicus union said it had agreed not to call further industrial action while the negotiations at the British banking giant were under way.

The union held a one-day strike last month among thousands of its members at HSBC in a bid to win an improved pay offer.

The two sides issued a joint statement saying they were committed to finding a successful outcome to the dispute.

The negotiations will continue over the next few weeks and the results will be revealed by mid-July.
