Ward happy at Bohs despite Weirside interest

17/06/2005 - 08:40:05
Bohemians star Stephen Ward continues to interest Sunderland though the Republic of Ireland Under 21 star insists that he is happy to remain in Dublin if the Black Cats don’t follow up their interest.

Sunderland had Ward over on trial twice during the winter. Sunderland assistant manager Ian Evans - the former Irish assistant manager - was in Dublin during May to keep tabs on the youngster.

Ward said: “I went over twice on trial and things went really well. They’re still in contact with the club.

“Hopefully, it’s still an option and we’ll see what happens because I enjoyed my time over there. It was a different experience to train with the first team over there.

“If it happens, it happens. If not, I’m happy and settled here at Bohs. My contract is up in November. I’m due to talk to the club in the next few weeks because I don’t want to leave it to the last minute.”
