Compelling Hotel Rwanda a must-see

17/06/2005 - 19:28:35
TERRY George’s Hotel Rwanda, starring Don Cheadle, makes for unsettling viewing, but not as much as the real horror of Rwanda’s brutal civil war which led to the deaths of around one million people.

As the rival Hutus and Tutsis massacred one another there were few to rise above the unfolding events.

But Paul Rusesabagina (Cheadle), the manager of a hotel, took on the mantle of hero by daring to lead hundreds of hunted people to safety.

It’s a compelling tale, and Cheadle is brilliant as the main figure whose simple urge to save his Tutsi wife begins a remarkable odyssey.

A human drama guaranteed to tug at the heartstrings, Hotel Rwanda makes richly rewarding viewing.
