15/06/2005 - 08:56:45
British Development Minister Gareth Thomas began a two-day visit to tsunami-affected areas in Sri Lanka today to assess the progress of British-funded projects, the British High Commission said.

The visit is part of a tour of countries affected by the December tsunami.

After arriving in Colombo, the British minister headed to eastern Sri Lanka, the area worst affected by the tsunami that killed more than 31,000 people on the tropical island of 19 million people.

Mr Thomas will meet Sri Lankan officials to discuss post-tsunami issues during his tour.
