Storrie: Perrin will get best out of Robert

15/06/2005 - 08:55:14
Portsmouth chief executive Peter Storrie is confident Alain Perrin can get the very best out of wayward winger Laurent Robert.

Pompey completed the signing of the 30-year-old on a three-year deal from Newcastle last night, beating Bolton to the player’s signature after agreeing an undisclosed fee with the Magpies.

His inconsistent performances for Newcastle – coupled with his tendency to make outspoken comments – meant he often frustrated fans, team-mates and managers alike at St James’ Park.

But Storrie believes the French connection at Fratton Park will help Robert play to his potential week in and week out.

“Alain Perrin is a top-quality coach and that helped greatly [in signing Robert]. Alain had lots of discussions with Laurent and I think he was very comfortable about how he sees his future here at the club,” Storrie said.

“Let’s not deny he has got some fantastic talent and I think he will be a real star down at Fratton Park.”
