O2 facing industrial action threat

Industrial action at mobile phone giant O2 was “inevitable” unless the company improved a pay offer, union leaders warned today.

The Communication Workers Union claimed that thousands of staff faced a pay freeze over the next year and others would receive a below inflation rise.

Delegates at the union’s annual conference in Blackpool today agreed to “any action necessary”, including industrial action, to break the deadlock.

The union, which has 5,000 members at the firm, said it will seek fresh negotiations next week before deciding whether to go ahead with a ballot.
