Government warned not to allow SF and DUP obstruct peace process
12/06/2005 - 19:08:05The SDLP is warning the government not to pander to Ian Paisley's demands when they meet in London next Wednesday.
Taoiseach Bertie Ahern, along with the Minister for Foreign Affairs Dermot Ahern and Minister for Justice Michael McDowell, will meet Mr Paisley in the latest effort to restore devolved government in the North.
The party’s deputy leader, Alasdair McDonell said it was imperative that “if Sinn Fein and the DUP continue to obstruct progress, no matter what noises they make, if their actions aren’t constructive, that the two governments take whatever steps are necessary to move the process forward and keep hope alive and sanity alive for ordinary people”.
Mr Ahern is also expected to hold talks with British Prime Minister Tony Blair in Downing Street afterwards.
