Derry dumped Shelbourne out of the cup for the second year running as the misery at Tolka Park continues.
Out of sorts Shels found themselves a soft goal down on five minutes.
A poor back pass from David Crawley had Steve Williams in trouble and Gary Beckett tapped the ball into the net.
Further poor defending gifted Derry their second on 22 minutes when Clive Delaney looped a header home.
