Amelie pair reunite for charming romance film
10/06/2005 - 19:16:45If you enjoy a good drama with a dollop of romance seek out A Very Long Engagement (Warner) from Jean-Pierre Jeunet, the director who brought us the delightful Amelie.
It’s near the end of World War 1 and Mathilde (Audrey Tatou, who also played the lead in Amelie) goes in search of her missing-in-action fiance Manech (Gaspard Ulliel), refusing to believe he’s dead.
It’s the kind of storyline that in other hands could easily descend into mawkishness, but what we get is a very enjoyable and quite moving drama. Pass the tissues please.
