Six killed in Istanbul fireworks blasts

A series of explosions at a fireworks warehouse in Istanbul today have killed at least six people, police said.

The explosions occurred at a depot in Umraniye, on the outskirts of the Asian side of the city, at around 11am (9am Irish time), police said. The cause was not immediately known.

Firefighters quickly brought a blaze at the warehouse under control and recovered the bodies of six people, police said.

The Anatolia news agency reported the dead included a child.
