Rangers clinch Murray deal

09/06/2005 - 14:17:58
Rangers have snapped up Hibernian captain Ian Murray on a three-year contract.

The talented utility man put pen to paper on the deal earlier today, ending speculation over his future.

Hibs boss Tony Mowbray was keen to hold onto the player and Murray has spent the last couple of weeks mulling over his options which included a new contract offer from the Edinburgh club.

But Murray had been strongly linked with a move to Rangers for months and manager Alex McLeish has now made him his first summer signing as the Scottish champions prepare to defend their title next season.

McLeish told the club’s official website, www.rangers.co.uk: “He is a versatile player with great desire. I’m delighted to get him.”
