Johnny supplemented for France

09/06/2005 - 12:48:21
Ralph Beckett has paid €4,500 (€6,700) to supplement his German 2000 Guineas second Johnny Jumpup for the Group Three Prix de la Jonchere at Chantilly on Sunday.

The Lambourn handler believes the mile contest provides a good opportunity for the three-year-old to open his account for the season, having been placed in two strong contests so far.

A winner of three races as a juvenile, Johnny Jumpup got within a length of the classy Indesatchel in the Greenham Stakes before finding German star Santiago too good at Cologne last time out.

“Obviously his owners agreed to pay the €4,500 (€6,700) to supplement him, but I thought it looked a good race for him. That’s his trip and I am assured that there will be good ground on Sunday,” said the Lambourn handler.

“He is in good form and on the book he either wins or comes second.

“You have to take these opportunities when they come along and he has not done much wrong in his life. He’s a joy to train. Seb Sanders rides.”

At this stage there are nine other contenders in the race, with fellow British horses Chrysander and Museeb joined by leading home fancies Salut Thomas, Early March and Turtle Bowl.
