08/06/2005 - 12:16:32
Fine Gael and Labour TD's say former Health Minister Micheál Martin failed to act responsibly over his handling of the illegal nursing home charging scandal.

Health Spokespersons Liz McManus and Dr Liam Twomey accused him of breaching regulations which compel ministers to take responsibility for everything in their departments.

Fine Gael and Labour TDs who are members of the Oireachtas Committee on health today published 12 conclusions that will not appear in their report on illegal nursing home charges due to be released tomorrow.

Liz McManus of Labour and Dr Liam Twomey say Micheál Martin breached the 1997 Public Services Management Act by not taking responsibility for his actions as Minister for Health.

They said that Micheál Martin's special advisors did not perform their duties under Section 11 of the same Act.

They also raised concerns over the lack of official records on ministerial decisions.
