Gardaí investigate Caulfield assault report
07/06/2005 - 07:55:33Gardaí in Galway are investigating reports that Athenry hurling boss Billy Caulfield was assaulted during an intermediate game on Saturday.
Caulfield, who guided his side to the All-Ireland club final this year, alleges he was assaulted during an intermediate game in Ballinasloe.
Kilnadeema-Leitrim beat Athenry by 1-14 to 0-11, but gardaí were called to the ground after a linesman was injured when a player was sent out over the sideline. The authorities then spoke to several players and officials.
An Athenry spokesman yesterday said Caulfield received medical attention after the game.
