Major campaign launched to reduce water waste
A major campaign is being launched today in the eastern region encouraging householders to reduce the amount of water they waste.
Leaflets are being sent to homes and businesses in Dublin, Wicklow and Kildare, listing simple water-saving measures.
People use a staggering 150 litres of water a day between cooking, washing and showering but could save between 10 and 20 litres a day by making simple changes - by putting a jug of water in the fridge instead of running the tap for every glass, for example, or by turning off the tap when brushing teeth.
If householders in the east of the country use 10 litres less per day it would result in 13 million litres being saved.
Householders and businesses will be given a list of measures to save water, which will contribute to significant savings for local authorities and consumers.
