Cole appeals tap-up rap

06/06/2005 - 15:32:14
The Premier League today confirmed they have received an appeal from Ashley Cole’s legal team over the sanctions imposed by an independent commission into the ‘tapping-up’ saga of the Arsenal defender.

Cole was fined £100,000 (€147,000) for his part in an illegal meeting earlier this year, while Chelsea were hit with a £300,000 (€445,000) sanction and handed a suspended three-point deduction following the formal inquiry, and Blues boss Jose Mourinho was also fined.

An FA Premier League appeals board is now set to be appointed, which will be made up of an independent legally-qualified chairman and two FA councillors.

Cole’s legal team are understood to have appealed against both the judgement of the independent commission in finding the player guilty as well as the financial sanction imposed.

Chelsea, meanwhile, still have time before the 14-day deadline to lodge an official appeal.
