Welfare recipients to be allowed to save more

Welfare recipients are set to benefit from increases in the amount of savings they are allowed to hold before their welfare entitlements are affected.

The Department of Social and Family Affairs estimates that 10,000 people will benefit from the move.

Recipients will now be allowed to have up to €20,000 in savings before their welfare is cut. That's up from €12,600.

And single pensioners can now have up to €28,000 and still enjoy maximum benefit.
