Government announces €7m in aid funding
05/06/2005 - 15:31:45The Government has announced a new aid package, worth more than €7m, to help the victims of conflicts in a number of countries.
Three African countries, Sudan, Sierra Leone and Liberia, are to receive the bulk of the funding.
It is being channelled through a number of non-governmental organisations, including Irish aid agencies Concern and Trócaire.
Conor Lenihan, the Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs, said today that the funding was aimed at saving lives and protecting the vulnerable in some of the world's worst trouble spots.
The latest allocation follows recent pledges made by Ireland at international donor conferences.
