Mean streets in the city
Sin City
Directors: Frank Miller and Roberto Rodriguez (Guest Director: Quentin Tarantino)
Cast: Bruce Willis, Jessica Alba, Mickey Rourke, Clive Owen, Elijah Wood, Nick Stahl
Cert: 18
A gritty thriller set in the sort of mean streets you'd be unwise to go down and based on the cult graphic novels of co-director Miller; and one of the first biggies of the summer season.
A fine ensemble cast plays out several storylines with some menacing, atmospheric style, all of the characters heavy on the mean side and cruising for a bruising.
It's good to see Rourke making another step on the road to movie redemption and it's especially good to see the deliciously sexy Alba as a stripper with an interesting sideline in twirling ropes.
The film captures the power of Miller's novels big time, swashbuckling its way from start to finish.
