Convictions for breaches of company law up 50% last year
03/06/2005 - 12:01:11The number of convictions obtained for breaches of company law increased by 50% last year, according to the Director of Corporate Enforcement.
In his annual report for 2004, Paul Appleby said 66 convictions were secured in 2004.
He said three company directors were disqualified for malpractice during the year, one for failing to submit annual tax returns.
Mr Appleby also said 341 complaints about fraudulent business practices were made last year, an increase of 34 on the figures for 2003.
