Government defends e-voting revival
The Government is defending its decision to revive e-voting.
The €52m debacle is resurfacing again after the contract for another security assessment of electronic voting and counting was put out to tender.
The project has been on hold since the last General Election when secrecy and accuracy of the system was called into question.
Environment Minister Dick Roche says he doesn't how much more it will cost, but he thinks bringing Ireland up to speed with other countries like Holland would be worth it.
“It is not a cheap exercise, that has to be said. But you know, you can't put a price on democracy,” Minister Roche said.
“If we are going to have a modern voting system in this country in the future we have to make absolutely certain that the people are confident that the system is secure,” he added.
