Diaz sues over 'affair' pictures
Actress Cameron Diaz has sued the National Enquirer newspaper over pictures it published claiming she was having an affair.
The lawsuit, filed in a Los Angeles court, claims the photographs were used to “create a fictional and fabricated story” which was “hugely profitable” for the tabloid.
The feature was published last month and claimed to show Diaz cheating on long-term boyfriend Justin Timberlake with her MTV producer Shane Nickerson.
Diaz and Nickerson said they were simply sharing a brief goodbye.
The lawsuit accuses the National Enquirer of publishing a “sensationalistic” story and manipulating and misrepresenting the photos.
The meeting was an “insignificant and non-memorable occurrence involving co-workers and friends”, the pair claim.
The suit was filed yesterday on behalf of 32-year-old Diaz, Nickerson, who works on Diaz’s MTV show Trippin’, and Nickerson’s mother-in-law.
A National Enquirer spokesman said: “We stand by our story and the accuracy of our photos and will defend it aggressively.”
