Talks planned in effort to avert Rye Valley Foods strike

02/06/2005 - 08:20:57
Talks are due to take place today in an effort to avert threatened strike action at the Rye Valley Foods plant in Carrickmacross.

The Technical, Engineering and Electrical Union, which represents 30 of the factory's 700 workers, has served strike notice on the plant, beginning from next Monday.

The dispute centres on a plan to close the facility for five days next week.

The TEEU says management has ordered workers to take a week's annual leave or face a week's lay-off.
