Jarvis hoping for Eswarah burst
Newmarket trainer Michael Jarvis is hoping Eswarah’s turn of foot will prove decisive when she goes into the Vodafone Oaks as favourite at Epsom on Friday.
The daughter of 1986 Oaks winner Midway Lady displayed an eyecatching change of pace in winning her Classic trial at Newbury in mid-May on only her second career outing.
Jarvis, speaking after his filly New Morning overturned last year’s Derby hero North Light at Sandown last night, told Racing UK: “Eswarah is fit and she has come through her preparation well.
“I hope she handles the track – one never knows until they actually run on it. She’s a handy, well-balanced filly, so we’ve every reason to think she will. She’s very clear-winded and takes little work.
“She’s shown in her two races that she has a real turn of foot, so the plan is to hold on to her for as long as possible and produce her with that turn of foot to go into the lead where it matters.
“The negatives are that she lacks experience and she has never been in a battle. I’d like to see a few showers too, really, more or less because most of the family have liked to get their toe in.
“She did change leads a couple of times up the straight at Newbury, but it was extremely firm the second time she won and I don’t think Epsom is going to be anything like as fast. So we’re going there full of hope.”
