SIMI reports increased car sales
Passenger car sales for May were 17,601, showing an increase of 14% on the same period last year (15,414).
This maintains the steady growth experienced in new car sales during the first four months of the year.
Overall new car sales for January to May were 122,829, an increase of 13% on the same period last year (108,229).
Cyril McHugh, Chief Executive SIMI, in welcoming these figures, said that they reflected the overall favourable performance of the economy this year.
Light Commercial registrations were 3,391, an increase of 35.5% on the same period last year (2,502).
Year to date Light Commercial registrations were 23,225, an increase of 30% on 2004 (17,916).
Heavy Commercial registrations for the month of May were 451, a 13.6% increase on May 2004 (397).
Year to date Heavy Commercial registrations were 2,859, an increase of 25.8% on the same period last year.
