Financials buoy up ISEQ
30/05/2005 - 11:51:03The ISEQ index of Irish shares was up 40.58 points in strong morning trade today and currently stands at 6281.15.
Financial stocks were largely buoyant, with only Irish Life and Permanent seeing a fall in value (of 8c to €13.57).
Bank of Ireland was up 7c to €12.54 after today's announcement that mortgage applications were up 25% in the first three months of the year.
AIB rose 22c to €17.20 while Anglo Irish Bank was up 12c to €9.72.
There were gains too for Elan (up 19c to €6.39), financial services group FBD (up 10c to €23.60) and Ryanair (up 5c to €6.35), but it was the financials' performance that contributed most to the positive morning.
Eircom stock was down a cent to €1.83.
