Shels to press ahead with stadium plans
27/05/2005 - 10:57:44Shelbourne got the green light yesterday to press ahead with plans to build a new stadium in Swords after Fingal County Council rezoned the land in the area for the development of a stadium.
The eircom League champions hope to move from Tolka Park to the purpose-built, 6,000-capacity stadium in the coming years. It is also planned to have land available there to accommodate the schoolboy section of the club.
However, a number of residents are opposed to the stadium and Shelbourne revealed it would work with local residents and the council to solve any problems.
A Shelbourne spokesperson said: "The management committee of Shelbourne is acutely aware that the small number of residents in the vicinity of the site have reservations.”
