Geldof ' planning to ask Pope to concert'
Bob Geldof is planning to ask the Pope to attend a rock concert in Scotland’s capital after the G8 Summit, it emerged today.
After meeting the Irish rocker and campaigner in London, the leader of Scotland’s Catholics, Cardinal Keith O’Brien, said Geldof planned to ask the Pope to Edinburgh.
The cardinal told the Scotland Today programme: “Sir Bob said he would love to have concerts in the great centres of the world, in London at Hyde Park, in Paris at the Eiffel Tower, in Germany, the US and so on.
“And at the end of the concerts he will call for a pilgrimage to Edinburgh asking all those involved in the concerts and everybody else who wants to come from the G8 countries to come to Edinburgh again.
“He said he was going to see the Pope and the cardinal’s secretary of state and Cardinal Martino (who is) in charge of justice and peace issues about the possibility of the Pope coming as well to this large gathering at the end of all the concerts.”
Geldof was in Rome today.
