IMPACT slams proposed EU directive on trade in services
27/05/2005 - 07:36:29The IMPACT trade union has claimed that workers' rights and Irish labour laws could be in jeopardy if a proposed EU directive on the trade in services is approved.
The union said the directive would allow companies from other EU states which set up in Ireland to operate under the laws of their own country, rather than Irish law.
IMPACT spokesman Bernard Harbour said: "We agree that there should be a freer trade in services, but we don't think that has to happen on the basis of undermining workers' rights, consumers' rights and environmental protections."
