Aer Lingus sell-off to dominate IMPACT conference this week

The Government's plans to privatise a majority stake in Aer Lingus is set to top the agenda at the annual conference of the IMPACT trade union this week.

More than 300 delegates are due to attend the meeting in Co Waterford, which gets underway today.

IMPACT is worried about the Government's move to sell off most of Aer Lingus to the private sector, fearing it could saddle the company with debt.

The union is also concerned that direct flights to important strategic locations may not be maintained by the airline's new owners, a move that could damage trade and tourism.
