Schumacher to tread carefully after tyre error
20/05/2005 - 11:04:37Ralf Schumacher has been hit with a half-second qualifying penalty after a tyre mix-up.
Toyota fitted an unregistered tyre to the German's car for practice yesterday following a blunder at suppliers Michelin.
Formula One has strict regulations on marking and registering tyres to prevent cheating and even though there is no suggestion Toyota deliberately broke the rules, Schumacher has been punished. He will have half a second added to his qualifying time.
An FIA statement said: "The Michelin representatives stated that there were two human errors, one inner side wall was not uniquely marked during the moulding process and a human error resulted in the regulations being breached."
