O'Neill warns 'Well will be stiff test

18/05/2005 - 12:51:36
Celtic manager Martin O’Neill insists his side’s potential championship winning game at Motherwell this weekend will be as tough as last week’s trip to Hearts.

A late Craig Beattie goal enabled the Hoops to leave Tynecastle on Sunday with a win when anything less would have handed Rangers the advantage going into the final fixture.

Rangers, who must now win at Hibernian to have a chance of snatching the Bank of Scotland Premier League crown, had thrashed ‘Well 4-1 on Saturday to briefly assume top spot.

Terry Butcher had been without a number of experienced players through injury and suspension and admitted afterwards that he did not expect to field a significantly stronger side this coming Sunday.

But O’Neill is nevertheless taking nothing for granted.

He told Celtic View: “The task for us is to win a game of football and, while that might sound straightforward enough, I can tell you now that it will be anything but easy.

“I don’t know what kind of state the pitch down there is in at the moment but games at Fir Park are always the same and we will need to be ready to force the issue from the very start.”
