Dublin Airport terminal gets go ahead
18/05/2005 - 18:40:21The Government finally reached a decision tonight on a long-awaited second terminal for Dublin Airport.
It is believed that the Cabinet decided that the facility would be state-owned but would be run independently through a tendering process.
Planning work will begin immediately on a third terminal which will be independently owned and operated, it is understood.
The transport department is expected to officially announce the details and other parts of an aviation package at a media conference later this evening.
Tonight’s decision ends months of stalemate between the coalition partners, Fianna Fáil and the Progressive Democrats, over who should own and operate the terminal.
Other measures to be announced tonight include the partial sell-off of Aer Lingus.
