16/05/2005 - 09:43:49
A man was due in court today after a toddler was killed in a road accident in the North.

Sixteen-month-old Aisling Marie Nic-Suibhrie was in her pram when she was hit by a car close to her home on the Ardmore Road, Derry. She was taken to hospital but died later.

Aisling’s mother was with her when the crash happened on Sunday afternoon. She was not believed to have been badly injured.

A man arrested by police following the collision was charged with causing death by dangerous driving and grievous bodily injury.

He is expected to appear at Derry Magistrates’ Court later today.

The tragedy was one of four deaths on the North's roads over the weekend.

Two young men died yesterday when the car they were in crashed on a road between Magherafelt and Tobermore in Co Derry.

A motorcyclist was also killed in nearby Kilrea on Saturday.

Forty-three people have now been killed on the North’s roads this year.
