Sky Blues settle on Ricoh

26/04/2005 - 11:32:43
Coventry will play their football at the Ricoh Arena from next season after the Japanese IT giants signed a £10m (€14.7m) sponsorship deal.

The Sky Blues, who are due to vacate Highfield Road following the weekend’s fixture with Derby, will be installed at their new 32,500-seater arena for the start of next season.

The football stadium forms just one part of a £113m (€165.8m) development close to Highfield Road, which has been the club’s home for 106 years.

The Arena development will also feature an exhibition centre, hotel, health and fitness facilities and a casino.

Paul Fletcher, chief executive of Arena Coventry Ltd which will manage the new development, said: “The Ricoh Arena will be a landmark building which will create a new gateway into the city and prove one of the most unique facilities in the country.”

Ken Taylor, leader of Coventry City council, added: “This is fantastic news for the Arena and more importantly it is fantastic news for the city as a whole.”
