Monaghan hosts EU meeting on tackling organised crime

Police officers and judges from throughout the European Union are meeting in Co Monaghan today to discuss ways to crack down on organised crime.

One of the issues up for discussion at the talks is the success of the Garda's Criminal Assets Bureau (CAB) and the possibility of establishing similar agencies in other European countries.

The CAB was set up in the wake of the Veronica Guerin murder to allow the authorities to seize money and assets that they believe are the proceeds of criminal activity.
