25/04/2005 - 19:18:26
Attacks on web servers and defacement of websites rocketed by more than a third last year, research said today.

There were almost 400,000 such attacks around the world in 2004, said a study by technology company Zone-h, released at this week’s Infosecurity Europe exhibition.

The report said 2,500 web servers were successfully hacked every day and warned the number could increase to 80,000 a day as technology such as 3G phones expands.

It went on that there were 392,545 recorded web server attacks in 2004, up 36% on the previous year.

There were 70,357 single defacements by hackers and 322,188 mass defacements in the year, it said.

A Zone-h spokesman said the company maintains the largest archive of information about attacks against internet web servers.
