SIPTU predicts Dublin airport chaos during tourist season

25/04/2005 - 08:10:06
SIPTU has claimed that delays due to new security procedures at Dublin Airport will worsen with the start of the main tourist season in May.

Passengers at the airport have been experiencing lengthy delays for the past two weeks due to new security checks introduced after an EU inspection.

The inspectors managed to smuggle a replica bomb and knives through the airport.

Dublin Airport Authority has insisted that the situation improved over the weekend, saying 20 extra security staff were on duty and a further 40 were currently in training.

However, SIPTU has claimed that only one extra x-ray machine had been added in the past two weeks and predicted that the summer season would bring renewed chaos to the airport.
