Pompey hammer Harry's sorry Saints

Portsmouth 4 Southampton 1

Portsmouth toyed with local rivals Southampton after establishing a 4-1 lead in the first 26 minutes at Fratton Park and Harry Redknapp’s return to Fratton Park was almost forgotten at times as Pompey moved 10 points ahead of the team he now manages.

Redknapp and his new team arrived with SAS guards and police swarming around the ground but were hit with a penalty in only the second minute from which Aiyegbeni Yakubu scored after Antti Niemi fouled Lomana LuaLua.

Skipper Arjan de Zeeuw headed in for 2-0 and after Henri Camara – a late replacement for Peter Crouch – pulled one back, LuaLua scored twice in five minutes before going off injured.

Pompey could have had more in the second half when substitute Diomansy Kamara missed a pair of sitters but four was enough as they kept dismal Saints nailed to the floor of the Premiership with three games to go.
