Bago triumphs in Prix Ganay

24/04/2005 - 17:53:09
Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner Bago made a successful return to action in the Prix Ganay at Longchamp today.

Bago (8-13) just did enough to take victory on his seasonal reappearance in the Prix Ganay, the first European Group One contest of the year.

The Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner, trained by Jonathan Pease, was quite close to the pace early on in the extended 10-furlong contest behind his pacemaker but dropped back to the middle of the pack.

However, while a cluster of runners moved to prominence in the straight, Bago accelerated smartly under Thierry Gillet to lead with over a furlong to run.

Pride made a late bid down the outside and looked like he might take the spoils but Bago found more and edged his rival out at the line.

Fallon and O’Brien had chances on Ace but had to settle for fourth.
