Yes Sir helps McCoy to 200

23/04/2005 - 15:34:37
Tony McCoy left it late to reach his sixth double-century of winners but he delivered the goods on the final day of the jumps season at Sandown Park today when Yes Sir took the opening contest.

Sent to challenge the front-running Mr Cool with three flights still to jump in the Betfred ‘The Bonus King’ Handicap Hurdle, the 13-2 co-favourite had to fight off a host of rivals in the home straight.

But McCoy was not in the mood to be passed and kept the winner up to his work all the way to the line to beat gambled-on Penny Pictures by a length and a quarter.

Penny Pictures’ trainer Martin Pipe also sent out third-placed Fontanesi and fifth-home Medison to extend his championship advantage 000 with time running out for rival Paul Nicholls to claw back the deficit.

The victory of Yes Sir should prove a tonic for his trainer Peter Bowen, who is soon to undergo an operation in hospital.
