Residential abuse compensation bill may reach €642m
20/04/2005 - 08:26:31The body set up to decide on compensation payments for victims of child abuse in residential institutions has reportedly indicated that the total damages bill could reach €624m.
Reports this morning said the Residential Institutions Redress Board had based the estimate on the average award size of €78,000.
The reports said the board expected to receive a total of between 7,500 and 8,000 claims, which means the final compensation bill could be between €585m and €624m.
