Morrison frustrated by bench role
Clinton Morrison has spelt out the frustration he has been feeling for the past three months since losing his first-team place to Walter Pandiani.
Morrison enjoyed a rich vein of form in November and December in partnership with Emile Heskey, and the duo netted nine goals in eight games together.
But Morrison has found himself with only a bit part to play since Pandiani arrived on loan from Deportivo La Coruna during the January transfer window.
The Republic of Ireland international is determined not to go moaning to Birmingham manager Steve Bruce about his lack of opportunities ahead of tomorrow’s Barclays Premiership clash at Manchester City.
Morrison said: “I am frustrated. I felt I formed a great partnership with Emile Heskey. We were creating chances for each other and also scoring goals.
“I had a run of four games in a row where I scored, and things were going well. But then all of a sudden you get dropped. It’s a kick in the teeth, and you start to wonder what is happening.
“I’m not saying Steve Bruce hasn’t got faith in me, and he wants me to sign a new contract and stay at Birmingham.
“But I just want to play games, and I am frustrated.
“However, you won’t hear me moaning or sounding off, which I might have been guilty of in the past. Sometimes in the past I’ve opened my mouth too much.
“All I can do is prove to the manager that I should be playing whenever I do get an opportunity.”
Morrison is contracted with City by another 14 months, but Bruce has already indicated he wants to sit down in the summer and negotiate a new deal with Morrison, who cost £4.5million when he moved from Crystal Palace three years ago.
