Law Society seeks constitutional protection for children
19/04/2005 - 11:26:30The Law Society of Ireland has called for a constitutional amendment to protect the rights of children.
The society made the call this morning before an Oireachtas committee that is hearing submissions about the sections of the constitution dealing with the family.
Law Society spokesman Geoffrey Shannon said: "We believe that the Constitution should be amended to insert express rights for children.
"The current constitutional position does not reflect this situation and we feel that some change is now required."
