CSO: ‘Irish people holidaying more, but spending less’
19/04/2005 - 13:05:18Irish people are taking more holidays at home and abroad, but are spending much less money while on holiday, according to figures published today by the Central Statistics Office.
The CSO said the number of domestic holidays taken by Irish residents in the final three months of last year was up 12% on the same period last year.
The number of international holidays also increased by 12% over the same period, but the CSO said spending on domestic trips was down by 9% and on international trips by 2%.
The statistics agency also said that people were taking shorter holidays and were increasingly choosing to stay in holiday homes or self-catering accommodation rather than hotels and B&Bs.
