Alitalia flight attendants' strike hits 168 flights

19/04/2005 - 10:38:54
Flight attendants at Italian state carrier Alitalia were set to stage a four-hour strike today, prompting the airline to cancel 168 flights.

Of the flights scrapped, 92 were domestic, 70 were within Europe and six were intercontinental, the company said.

Flight attendants from three labour unions said they would stay off the job from noon local time (11am Irish time) until 4pm (3pm Irish time) today.

Cabin crews have gone on strike several times in recent months over concerns that include a restructuring plan at the airline that includes 3,700 job cuts.
