Teenage birth rates down significantly in past 30 years
18/04/2005 - 07:27:32Birth rates among Irish teenagers have fallen significantly in the past 30 years, according to a report published today by the Crisis Pregnancy Agency.
The report said the birth rate among teenagers in 2003 was 18.8 per 1,000 girls in the 15-to-19 age groups, compared to 22.4 in 1973.
It also said that, while pregnancy rates in the 15-to-19 age group had been increasing since 1996, they were still at the same level they were at in 1980.
The Crisis Pregnancy Agency said highest teenage birth rates were in Limerick, Dublin, Waterford and Carlow, while the lowest were in Roscommon, Co Galway and Sligo.
