Govt urged to introduce charter of patients’ rights

The Irish Patients Association has called on the Government to introduce a charter of patients’ rights in Ireland.

The association said a European Charter of Patients’ Rights was drawn up by an Italian group three years ago and this could easily be adapted to suit the Irish health service.

The document includes a right of access to health services, a right to information, a right to consent and a right to privacy and confidentiality.
